2025/07/19 Chapter 28: Writing this a while after I finished chapter 28... Since I can't currently read the rest of this manga T_T going to write out my current thoughts. I love this series dearly! I am really scared of pregnancy, I consider the idea of suddenly finding out I'm pregnant and having to go through with a pregnancy to be my greatest fear, as great as most people consider dying or losing all their loves ones. It's something I can't even think about half the time because it makes me so anxious. So it's kind of a miracle that I picked up My Girlfriend's Child at all. Colleen of Colleen's Manga Recs suggested it in one of their videos and I really liked the art and I like stories that are educational... So I braved my fear and decided to give it a shot. The relationship between Sachi and Takara is beautiful in this manga. They're two people that love each other very dearly and want the best for each other. This manga doesn't busy itself with love triangles or relationship misunderstandings, which in this case is a very good thing as the main relationship feels strong and healthy, which leaves room for the main focus of this series, Sachi's unexpected pregnancy. The way that Aoi writes about Sachi and her pregnancy is deeply compassionate and thoughtful. Aoi has said that she wanted to write this series because she knew that many teenage girls in Japan had been failed by the education system, and were having very traumatic pregnancy experiences, without understanding of or access to different options. Aoi was able to craft a story that is both deeply heartfelt and beautiful to read, while also being extremely educational. Through the course of this manga you learn about the many ways a person can choose to handle their pregnancy, from adoption to abortion to fostering to caring for the child themselves, as well as the different supports in place to help the family. I love this manga dearly, and I think it's really beautiful that Aoi used her talent for storytelling to hopefully make some people feel less alone or afraid when going through something that can be deeply isolating and scary.
